In order to highlight Kargil as an independent tourism in J&K, the department of tourism has printed comprehensive publicity material that would be circulated in upcoming travel marts across India and abroad.

This was informed by Director Tourism Kashmir, Mahmood Ahmad Shah today while releasing Tourist Directory and Trekking map named Kargil – A slice of bliss and beauty – at a conference hall in Drass. The directory highlights Kargil’s tourism potential which includes its destinations and trekking routes and the activities that travelers can undertake.

The meeting was attended by Executive Councilor LAHDC Kargil Mohammad Amir, DC Kargil Gulzar Hussain, SDM Drass Barkhat Ali, and Assistant Director Tourism Aga Tauha besides senior officers of various departments.

          On the occasion, several short films were also screened. The department also released pen drives which contain short movies showcasing Kargil’s destinations besides trekking expeditions undertaken by locals and travelers.

Speaking on the occasion, Mahmood Shah informed that on the directions of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, the department is projecting Kargil as an independent destination. He further said that travel and hospitality sector also demanded comprehensive print and electronic publicity material to showcase Kargil’s tourist destinations and attract travelers. “Kargil has been bestowed with many natural gifts and the department is taking keen interest to increase the average stay of the tourists in Kargil,” said Shah.

Director Tourism said Drass is the oldest place and leads to Gurez through Koabal which will also be explored. “Our efforts are to take Kargil at par with Leh,” he added.

He said that department of tourism has planned to organize festivals in Bangus, Gurez and Kargil and assured for making it as an annual feature The department has also formulated festival calendar of the state in which Kargil festival will also be featured, he stated.

Director Tourism also said department in collaboration with IMF conducted Nun Kun expedition successfully.

He also assured tour operators from Kargil that department would sponsor road shows for them that can be held in Indian cities.

The meeting appreciated tourism department for promoting tourism in Kargil and said that local youth would get employment opportunities with development of tourism.
