A spokesman of the Zonal Police Headquarters Kashmir today said that the overall situation remained under control throughout the Valley. “However, some stray stone pelting incidents were reported till filing of this report,” he said.

The spokesman said that three incidents of stone pelting were reported from Budgam, Pulwama and Shopian. “At these places, miscreants assembled on the roads and attempted to disturb the normal traffic and movement of people by pelting stones on vehicles, police and security force deployments,” he said.

The spokesman said that increased movement of private and passenger vehicular traffic was observed in most parts of the Srinagar as also in the major towns of the valley.

The Spokesman further said that during the night intervening 7th and 8thSeptember 2016 unknown militants entered into the Guard Room located at the residence of political protectee Abdul Rashid Khanday falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station, D H Pora, Kulgam and snatched the weapons from the police personnel deployed there.

The spokesman said that the snatched weapons include one SLR, one 303 Rifle and two INSAS. He said Police has taken the cognizance and investigations are on.

Meanwhile, reacting to a news report published in a section of the press titled, “Kulgam man dies of cardiac arrest amid teargas shelling”, a spokesman of the Zonal Police Headquarters Kashmir today said the allegation that the said person died due to cardiac arrest amid tear gas shelling is factually incorrect.

“According to the district police authorities Kulgam, the said person suffered cardiac arrest in Chawalgam village at around 09.00 AM in the morning. There was no tear smoke shelling going on at that time in the area,” the spokesman said adding that the security forces had to use tear smoke at 03.00 PM in the area to disperse the miscreants when they were pelting stones on the security force deployment.
