The Bombay High Court refused to interfere with the release of ‘Bajirao Mastani’

Stumbling blocks, if any, were cleared for Bajirao Mastani — Bollywood filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s latest magnum opus — after Bombay High Court Friday refused to interfere with its release.

Activist Hemant Patil had moved Court seeking stay on the release of the movie alleging two of its songs — ‘Pinga’ and ‘Malhari’ — are not censored as these allegedly distort facts and history.

A court in Pune had earlier dismissed his application seeking ban on the film’s release. Patil had claimed the film allegedly distorts history relating to late king Shrimant Bajirao Peshwa and his family members.

According to Patil’s petition, the movie is a “false and bogus representation of historic people like Bajirao, Kashibai and Mastani”. Kashibai and Mastani were wives of Bajirao.
