Two youth succumbed to injuries after forces opened fire to disperse protesters who were agitated against an alleged attempt to molest a college going girl allegedly at the hands of an army man in Handwara. Two youth, identified as Nayeem Ahmad Bhat and Mohammad Iqbal sustained injuries after forces opened firing on the protesters. However, Iqbal succumbed to his injuries at Handwara hospital while as Nayeem succumbed later on.

A health official at Handwara hospital confirmed the death of both Iqbal and Nayeem said “Iqbal  was brought dead while as Nayeem succumbed later.”

Earlier, massive protests erupted in Handwara of north Kashmir against army after an unidentified trooper belonging to 21 Rashtriya Riffles allegedly attempted to molest a local college girl in a public lavatory.

Army spokesman on Tuesday regretted the Handwara incident and said “army deeply regrets the unfortunate loss of life.”

The spokesman further said, “Matter will be investigated and anybody found guilty will be dealt as per law.”
