Legislators meet Governor

Mr. Ishfaq Ahmad Sheikh, MLA Ganderbal; Mr. Nazir Gurezi, Deputy Speaker Legislative Assembly and MLA Gurez; a delegation of MLAs comprising Mr. Nawang Rigzin, MLA Leh, Mr. Asgar Karbalie, MLA Kargil; Mr Deldan Namgial, MLA Nubra; and Mr. Agha Baqir, MLA Zanskar had separate meetings with Governor N.N Vohra  at the Civil Secretariat Jammu today.

          The Ladakh delegation brought up issues relating to reservation in promotions, which had emerged after a recent ruling of the High Court, and stressed the need to provide due representation to the reserved categories.

          The Legislators from Ladakh apprised the Governor about issues pertaining to their respective areas, which included enhancement of Kerosene oil quota for Kargil; need for modifications in National Food Security Act to increase the scale of rations for Ladakh keeping in view its low agricultural production and harsh climate; compensation for flood damages to people of Zanskar sub division due to Phuktal river blockade in 2015; adequate electricity supply; enhancement in tonnage quota for Kargil district in AN-32 Courier Services; providing three sorties of IL services for the stranded passengers at Jammu and Srinagar.

          The Legislator from Nubra highlighted the need to recognize the bravery of the local porters who were involved in rescue operations during the recent snow wall avalanche in Siachen glacier and extending financial support to the women ice hockey team from Ladakh which is slated to represent the Country in Asian Games next month.

          The Governor directed Mr. B.R Sharma, Chief Secretary to urgently examine all the issues for timely decisions.

          The MLA from Ganderbal briefed the Governor about several developmental issues in his constituency: release of funds for payment of compensation for the land involved in road widening from Srinagar to Ganderbal; construction of approach road to upcoming bus stand at Ganderbal and completion of District Hospital Ganderbal building. He also urged the Governor for early award of New Ganderbal Power House (93 MW), transfer of additional 1000 kanals of land at Ranbir Bagh, Ganderbal to Central University Kashmir andissues arising out  of implementation of National Food Security Act in the State.

          The Deputy Speaker, Mr. Gurezi apprised the Governor about the issues relating to people of Gurez which included grant of increased rations under the National Food Security Act, because of remoteness and harsh weather; construction of an all weather road and tunnel under Razdan Pass; and enhanced employment opportunities for youth in Security Forces.
