A joint team comprising of Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Syed Abid Rasheed Shah and security forces today visited avalanche prone areas of Kund area of Kulgam district and reviewed preparedness of the concerned departments to deal with any eventuality.
Stressing on participation of people living alongside avalanche prone areas to carry relief and rescue operations in case of any emergency, the DC said that 10 volunteers from each designated village have been identified, who will be trained by the district disaster management cell.
He further said that in case of any eventuality, volunteers will reach these places at the earliest and shall help prevent loss of life and property.
It was informed that four shelter centers have been identified where arrangements for stocking of ration and first-aid facilities shall be made available in case of any possible emergency situation.
The DC directed officers of various departments including Health, CAPD, PHE and Forest to stock adequate quantity of medicines, food grains, potable water and firewood so that it serves the people stuck in the shelter sheds in case heavy snowfall or avalanche occurs in these areas.
