The Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr. Farooq Ahmad Lone today convened a meeting to take stock of arrangements being put in place in connection with the celebration of road safety week.
The meeting was told that road safety week is being celebrated from 10th to 16th January 2016. The road show featuring a large number of bikers will commence from Zabarwan Park and culminate at Lal Chowk. The road show is aimed at creating awareness among public about traffic rules and regulations.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned officials to install hoardings at different bus stops so that people are able to locate the bus stops. He was told that bus fair will be also notified for the awareness of general public. The officials, volunteers and others present in the meeting gave their suggestions which were deliberated on the spot.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the transport authorities to curb the menace of overloading in the passenger buses and take action against the violators as per law. He also directed for taking strict action against the drivers violating the traffic rules. The Deputy Commissioner asked the concerned departments to work in close coordination to make the road safety week celebrations a success.
The meeting was attended by SSP Traffic, RTO Kashmir, Deputy Director Motor Garages, GM Road Transport, CMO Srinagar, CEO Sgr, officials of SMC, volunteers and other concerned officials.
