DG ICAR visits KVK Reasi, interacts with farmers

Director General, ICAR, Dr S Ayyappan  visited Krishi Vigyan Kendra(KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences-Jammu (SKUAST-J) and chaired a meeting at KVK campus in which around 200 farmers from Reasi district actively participated.

During interaction with the farmers, Dr Ayyappan gave them important scientific guidelines so that they can increase their production. He stressed upon farmers to fetch more prices by growing the organic crops and suggested the farmers use Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in Agriculture. He emphasized on the certification of organic crops and added that farmers should go for mushroom cultivation which has immense scope in the hilly areas.

          DG ICAR also interacted with the female farmers and appreciated their efforts for the formation Self Hep Group (SHGs) which have immense scope in the hilly areas.

 He also listened to the Agricultural related problems of the farmers and guided the SKUAST-J experts for their solution. He appreciated the crop samples kept by the allied departments and farmers in the exhibition. He also visited the demonstration units of the KVK and appreciated the KVK scientists for their endeavors.

Director Research of SKUAST-J, Dr.J.P.Sharma suggested the farmers to use the quality seed which plays the pivotal role in the crop production and guided the farmers to use the hybrid seeds of maize and vegetables to increase their crop productivity.

          Earlier, Director Extension of SKUAST-J Dr K S Risam welcomed Director General (DG) ICAR and appraised his second visit in the KVK. He interacted with the farmers and suggested the farmers to adopt the scientific guidelines given by the KVK experts.

The programme was co-ordinated by Dr. Shahid Ahmad, Sr. Scientist-cum-Head and demonstrated the crop cafeteria and other demonstration units viz. mushroom etc. to the farmers and line department officers of Reasi district.
