Div Com orders early rehabilitation of Chunt Kul inhabitants

The Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Dr. Asgar Samoon has directed the Lakes and Water Development Authority (LAWDA), Srinagar Development Authority (SDA) and other concerned authorities to ensure evacuation of families in Chunt Kul on priority basis and stressed for formulating a comprehensive plan for the rehabilitation of these families.

Reviewing Chunt Kul rehabilitation plan, Dr. Samoon asked officials to take up with the concerned agencies to handover the land at Sumberbugh, Shalteng and Rakhi Shalina for dwellers of Jhelum Bund and Chunt Kul within a stipulated time. He said administration should keep a check on encroachments and whosoever is involved in such acts should be penalised.  We will act tough against encroachments of any sort in Srinagar, the Div Com said.

“Srinagar has some exceptional natural advantages over other locations. It enjoys facilities of communication as a true centre of valley. However there are various issues pertaining to the people as far as the rehabilitation is concerned,” Dr Samoon said. 

The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone, Vice-Chairman, LAWDA, VC, SDA, Tehseen Mustufa, officials from district administration Budgam among others.   

The heads of LAWDA, SDA, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar were directed to finalize plan for the rehabilitation of the Chuntkul and Dal dwellers.

 He further directed the LAWDA and other concerned authorities to ensure evacuation of families in Chunt Kul.

Divisional Commissioner also urged the authorities and Voluntary groups to undertake sustained cleaning of Chuntkul outflow channel of Dal Lake.
