Div Com reviews Muharram arrangements

Divisional Commissioner Kashmir,  Baseer Ahmad Khan, today chaired a high level meeting to review the arrangements being put in place for Muharram in Kashmir, Leh and Kargil.

The meeting discussed various issues in connection with observing Muharram in Kashmir province.

On the occasion, the Divisional Commissioner asked the Divisional Administration to make all the necessary arrangements for smooth conduct of all the remembrance functions and procession related to Muharram.He stressed on the officers to extend all facilities to the people especially in the Shia dominated areas.

He directed the concerned Departments to ensure un-interrupted power and drinking water supply, availability of essential commodities, ensuring adequate quantity of firewood for distribution and availability of ambulances, first aid kits, doctors and para medical staff during the Muharram days.

The Divisional Commissioner also directed State Road Transport Corporation and Regional Transport Officer Kashmir to ensure deployment of adequate number of buses and availability of proper transport facilities at the designated locations. He also instructed the Srinagar Municipal Corporation to ensure cleanliness around Imambaras and Mosques and directed them replace damaged street lights. He also directed the Roads & Buildings Department to ensure repair of all roads leading to Imambaras.

Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr. Farooq Ahmad Lone, Chief Engineers of various departments, Vice Chairman LAWDA, Commissioner SMC, officers of various departments and representatives were also present in the meeting.

           Deputy Commissioners of various districts of the valley participated in the meeting through video conferencing and informed the meeting about the measures taken by their respective district administrations in connection with the observance of Muharram.

On the occasion, the Divisional Commissioner directed the concerned Departments to establish Muharram Joint Control Rooms at all district headquarters for the redressal of public grievances.
