Div Com takes stock of Independence Day arrangements

Divisional Commissioner, Sanjeev Verma today visited the Mini Stadium, Parade to get the first hand appraisal of the arrangements being made for the Independence Day Celebration in Jammu.

IGP Jammu, Dr SD Singh, SSP Jammu, Vivek Gupta, SSP Traffic Joginder Singh,Director School Education Rakesh srangal , Director Floriculture Babila Rakwal, Director Health , ADC Jammu , Jt Director Hospitality &Protocol, RTO Jammu and other senior functionaries of the concerned departments accompanied the Div Com.

While taking stock of the security arrangements, the Div Com asked for thorough sanitization of the entire  Mini Stadium and surrounding areas.

The Div Com directed the Secretary, Sports Council to facelift the venue where the Chief Guest will unfurl the National Flag and take salute at the march past. Traffic department was directed to indentify spots for parking of vehicles of the visitors.

He further directed the concerned departments to make arrangements keeping in view the chances of rain.

 Later, the Div Com chaired a meeting to take review of arrangements entrusted to different departments.

 The meeting held a detailed discussion on seating arrangement, illumination of buildings on the eve of August 15, barricading, PAS, availability of dewatering pumps , transportation, Fire tenders and critical care ambulances.      

 The Div Com asked the Youth Service and Sports department to submit its requirements of buses to SRTC for transportation of students.

He directed the School Education department to ensure maximum participation of school children in the function.   The Div Com also directed for participation of all government employees in the national function.

  The meeting was informed that the Shehnai Vadan will performed on August 15  at various places including Parade, Auquaf Market, MubarakMandi, Town hall, Divisional Commissioner’s office, High Court and City Chowk.

The Div Com asked the heads of departments to ensure the implementation of directions passed in the earlier meetings. He also reviewed arrangements put in place by PDD, PHE, JMC, PWD, Health department for smooth conduct of the national event.  

J&K Urdu Council elects new office-bearers

The members of JK Urdu Council have elected new office bearers for the Council.

Noted writer and columnist Dr Javid Iqbal has been unanimously elected as new President of the Council while Ajaz Ahmad Kakroo will be new Senior Vice President. JavedMatjee has been reelected as Secretary General and Prof. Hameed Naseem Rafiabadi and Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Ganaie will be Vice President of the council. Mr. Javid Kirmani and Sofi Ali Mohammad have also been reelected as Secretary Information and Secretary Finance respectively. Noted social activist Advocate A. R. Hanjura will continue to act as Legal Advisor cum Chief organizer of the council.

The elections to elect a new body for coming three years were held here in which majority of Council members participated. The outgoing president Jan Mohammad Azad has been elected as Chairman of Advisory council which includes Dr Rafiq Masoodi, GN Var, Showkat Ahmad Bhat and others as its members. Shahbaz Hakbari, Peer Najmuddin, BA Shah, Abdul Shakoor and others were made district coordinators. Urdu Council is active for the protection and promotion of state’s official language Urdu in Jammu and Kashmir.

2nd phase of training for ROs, ARO of district Kargil on July 31

According to Deputy Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer, LAHDC Kargil, Vikas Kundal, all the designated Returning Officers and Assistant Returning Officers of District Kargil have been asked to attend the II-Phase of training regarding 4thGeneral Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Election-2018 on 31-07-2018 (Tuesday) at 2.00 p. m at Conference Hall Baroo, Kargil without fail.

In a circular issued by Deputy Commissioner, today, further said that the ROs AROs will be distributed election material at the end of the training.

Governor conveys displeasure over delay in the non – regularization of Workers

Following the instructions given by Governor N.N. Vohra that the entire process of regularizing the services of casual workers should be speeded up, the Empowered Committee constituted vide SRO–520 had its 4th meeting under the Chairmanship of Mr. Navin Kumar Choudhary, Principal Secretary to Government, Finance Department, and regularized the engagement of 140 persons of various Departments, of whom 10 belong to PWD, 51 to PHE Department, 8 to I&C Department, 7 to Forest Department, 61 to Housing & UDD and 3 to Technical Education Department.

Giving further details, Mr. Choudhary informed that till date the Empowered Committee has held 4 meetings and cleared 310 cases of various Departments. He further explained that in today’s meeting the cases of 45 persons were rejected for want of the requisite documents as specified in the SRO-520.

Mr. Choudhary conveyed the Governor’s serious concern and displeasure over the continuing failure of all concerned Departments to promptly submit all required documents, which has caused delay and denial of their due rights to the claimants. Governor has directed Principal Secretary Finance to send him a list of all the defaulting Departments. All Departments have also been issued directions, yet once again, to speed up the submission of cases to the Empowered Committee for urgent disposal.

Today, on the 33rd day of the ongoing Shri Amarnathji Yatra, 3,827 Yatris paid obeisance at the Holy Cave and cumulatively since the beginning of the pilgrimage on 28th June 2018, 2 62,314 Yatris had darshan at the Holy Cave.

During last year’s Yatra of 40 days, the total number of pilgrims who visited Holy Cave Shrine was 2,60,003, whereas this year the pilgrimage has crossed this number in 33 days, despite interruptions due to torrential rains.

Theft case in a houseboat in Srinagar cracked by police

 Yesterday, Srinagar police received a complaint from two Israeli tourists wherein they stated that while their stay in a house boat in Dal Lake Srinagar, they found that 1050 US $ (dollars) are missing from their bag, amounting to INR 70,000.

On receiving this complaint, a police team of Police Post Nehru Park led by in-charge Police Post Nehru Park Shri Sameer Ahmad Lone started investigating the matter. During the investigation, number of suspects including the owner of house boat and it’s staff were called in and questioned.

During questioning, a suspect was zeroed in, who after sustained questioning confessed the crime and later returned the money. However, the Tourists on humanitarian basis forgave the accused and withdrew the complaint, keeping in view the poor financial background of the accused.

Moreover, it was reiterated to hotel owners association as well as houseboat owners association that they must inform the concerned Police Station as and when they hire any staff for their hotels or houseboats.

It is pertinent to mention that the accused was appointed by the houseboat owner without ascertaining the credentials from the concerned Police Station.

Finally the duo tourists thanked Srinagar police particularly police team Nehru Park for the timely help and instant recovery of their money and left for their respective destinations happily.“`

Hurriyat leaders put under house arrest in Kashmir

Chairman Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Molvi Mohammad Omar Farooq have been put under house arrest, while as JKLF chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik remained into preventive custody in police station.This has been done as a precautionary measure in wake of the bandh call given by Hurriyat against the killing of youth in Kulgam area.Slain youth were trying to shied the terrorists who were cordoned off by security forces.

In the investigation of the case FIR No 51/2018 pertaining to yesterday’s terror attack at Press Enclave, a Special Investigation Team has been constituted for probing the matter, which will be headed by DIG CKR.

In this regard a suspect who was earlier seen in a video picking up a pistol of the injured cop from the scene of crime has been identified as Zubair Qayoom R/O Saderabal. The suspect has been taken into custody and the said pistol has been recovered from his possession besides the clothes that he was wearing at that time were also recovered on his disclosure.

The complicity of the said individual in the instant crime is being investigated.

Thousands throng Shujaat Bukhari’s funeral in his ancestral village

Senior journalist and Chief Editor of daily Rising Kashmir Shujaat Bukhari, was laid to rest today in his ancestral village a day after he was shot dead outside his office in Srinagar. Braving heavy rain, crowds of tearful mourners from across the Valley followed the cortege through the streets of Village Kreeri in Baramulla district.Amongst those who took part in the last rites of the journalist and visited his ancestral home to condole with the family were opposition leader Omar Abdullah and ministers from the PDP and the BJP. It was probably the biggest funeral procession the village had seen. There was a traffic jam in the area as the crowds of mourners swelled.The editor of Rising Kashmir’ and his two personal security officers (PSOs) were shot dead by terrorists outside the newspaper’s office in the heart of Jammu and Kashmir’s summer capital.Bukhari, 50, was gunned down soon after he got into his car from his office at Press Enclave in Lal Chowk. Bukhari was instrumental in organising several conferences for peace in the Kashmir Valley. He was also part of the Track II process with Pakistan.

Thousands of devotees thronged the one day historic Baba Yugdhar mela here at village Satyalta- Chenani, which began this morning with the ritual bathing of the Devta and followed by NavgrahaPoojan and the Aarti of Baba Yug Dev.

District Development Commissioner Udhampur Ravinder Kumar was the chief guest at the inaugural function of mela.

The mela is annually organized by YugdharDevsthan Development Trust Chenani in collaboration with District Administration. During the mela, thousands of people attired in traditional and colorful dresses throng the mela site to offer prayers and seek blessings of their revered deity for peace and prosperity.

While extending his greetings to the people, the DC said that such festivals not only signify religious aspiration and   spiritual bliss but act as platform for people to people contact and sharing of    experiences and joys.

The District Administration Udhampur had made adequate arrangements of drinking water, Medicare, electricity, sanitation, transport etc for the devotees. To educate the people about various state and centrally sponsored government schemes, different departments had put up their stalls at the mela site.

During the mela, Students of   different schools participated in various activities. Cultural programs were also presented by the local artists.

People from Satyalta, Tandhar, Nagulta,Dhanas,Gharian, Pattangarh, Charat, Pakhlai, Malad, Barmeen, Udhampur, Chenani, Ramnagar of Udhampur District and even from Jammu converge every year to celebrate the Mela and pay obeisance to Baba Yug Shrine.
