Naeem Akhtar condoles demise of Bakshi’s daughter

Minister for Public Works and Culture, Naeem Akhtar, today visited the Srinagar residence of Late MrsShamma Mir, daughter of ex-Prime Minister of J&K, Bakshi Ghulam Mohammad. MrsShamma Mir passed away here last evening.

Akhtar expressed personal condolences with the family of MrsShamma Mir, wife of Mir Nasrullah, ex-chief secretary of Jammu and Kashmir, whose last rites were held today in Srinagar. He prayed for strength to the family in this time of huge loss and grief.

Recalling the contribution of Bakshi Ghulam Mohammad towards the state of Jammu and Kashmir, Akhtar also prayed for peace of the departed soul. “May Allah (swt) grant her highest place in Jannah,” Akhtar said. The minister was also accompanied by senior officers of the state government.

Musical event at Tagore Hall reinvents Kashmir’s treasured cultural diversity

To celebrate the rich cultural diversity of Jammu and Kashmir, a unique musical event was organized at the Tagore Hall in Srinagar where Kashmiri artists lent voice to the poetry written by Kashmiri Pandit scholars in honour of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).

The event titled ‘Naatiya Poetry of Kashmiri Pandits’ is the brainchild of Minister for Public Works and Culture, Naeem Akhtar and it was organized by the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages in collaboration with Directorates of Tourism and School Education Kashmir.

“Celebrating Ramazan through musical tributes to our beloved Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) is ingrained in Kashmiri culture. This program is an attempt of cultural renaissance by the state government to educate new generation about our rich and glorious past,” Akhtar said.

The Culture Minister said Jammu and Kashmir has undergone tough times during the past three decades but new initiatives are being taken under the leadership of chief minister Mehbooba Mufti to revive the philosophy of unity in diversity that has been the hallmark of Kashmiri society.

“In this holy month of Ramazan, these unique initiatives open a new window of opportunity to revive and preserve the rich heritage and cultural traditions of our state. They also foster mutual respect and admiration between different communities that have been torn apart by the events of past three decades,” he said.

Akhtar said the Kashmiri Pandit community has made immense contribution towards the social, political and cultural capital of the state of Jammu and Kashmir, “It is to honor and celebrate their contributions that we have gathered here today and we hope our younger generation will carry forward their rich legacy and message of pluralism,” he said.

The program at Tagore Hall was part of various events being organized by the Culture Academy in Srinagar during the holy month of Ramazan which will be held from 30 May to 11 June at Tagore Hall, Tourist Reception Centre, Srinagar and Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre among other venues.

Today’s event was also attended by Director Information, Muneer-ul-Islam, MD JKSPDC, Shah Faesal, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Abid Rasheed, Secretary of JK Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Aziz Hajni, INTACH member, Saleem Beg, officers of the state government and hundreds of students and artists from different parts of Kashmir Valley.

The works of famed Kashmiri Pandit poets like Dina Nath Nadeem, PyareHatash, Prem Nath Shad, Pitambar Nath Fani and Prakash Ram besides others were recited by prominent singers from Kashmir Valley in nostalgic musical performances which evoked rapturous cheering from the audience in the jam-packed Tagore Hall.

The program started with renowned singer Qaiser Nizami lending voice to the popular rendition of ‘Ali Maula’ written by Hazrat Amir Khusroo (RA). Besides Nizami, singers Waheed Jeelani, Muneer Ahmad, Raja Bilal, Altaf Sahil, TehseenaShafi, Shazia Bashir, Qazi Rafi and Gulzar Ganai performed during the event.

Basharat Bukhari reviews progress of Law Deptt projects

Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Syed Basharat Bukhari today convened a meeting to review the progress of various construction projects, schemes and works pertaining to Department being executed across the State.

Secretary Law Abdul Majid Bhat, Managing Director JKPCC, MD Housing Board, Chief Engineer R&B Kashmir & Jammu, besides concerned officers from JKPHC, High Court and Law department attended the meeting.

During the meeting, the Minister took stock of the physical and financial status of projects and works of law department being taken-up across state by executing agencies viz Housing Board, R&B, JKPCC. The works include construction of District Court Complexes and Munisif Court Complexes at various locations, filling of ICT infrastructure gaps at High Court Srinagar and Jammu, besides security infrastructure augmentation works for High Court Complexes.

Directing all executing agencies for time bound completion of ongoing projects, the Minister asked the Deputy Commissioners concerned including DC Leh, Bandipora and Budgam for an early resolution on land acquisition, other disputes leading to undue delays in execution of these projects.

With regards to the pace of work on construction of new Assembly Complex, supporting infra at Jammu, Bukhari directed for constitution of a technical committee to oversee the procurement and installation of electric systems, PA systems at the complex.

Bukhari further said that he will be conducting spot visits at District Court Complex Srinagar Moominabad, Handwara Court Complex in the coming days.

Five people held guilty in sex scandal case

Five people have been held guilty and two acquitted by the Chandigarh district court in the 2006 Jammu-Kashmir sex scandal case. The court will pronounce the quantum of the punishment on June 4. The guilty include former J&K DSP Mohammed Ashraf Mir, former DIG, BSF, KC Padhi, while businessman Mehrajuddin Malik and former J&K general advocate Anil Sethi have been acquitted in the case.

Mehbooba Mufti welcomes the agreement by DGMOs of India and Pakistan

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday welcomed the agreement by DGMOs of India and Pakistan to fully implement the ceasefire pact of 2003 and stop cross-border firings.

The chief minister said this brings great relief to the people residing in the vicinity and having peace on the borders was the first essential step to a larger understanding and expressed hope that it would sustain.

Taking to the social networking site, Twitter, Mehbooba wrote: “Wholeheartedly welcome the reiteration of the commitment to the ceasefire on the border by both DGMO’s. This brings great relief to the people residing in the vicinity. Peace on our borders is the first essential step to a larger understanding & I truly hope it sustains.”

18 Medical stores inspected in Poonch, 1 Sealed Expired drugs seized

In the backdrop of complaints received from different quarters regarding spurious drugs being sold in the town, a team comprising of Assistant Drug Controller, Tehsildar Haveli and Drug inspectors on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Aijaz Asad today carried out surprise inspection of 18 medical shops and collected 17 samples of various medicines for lab testing and analysis.

The team also sealed one medical store for supply of spurious drugs whereas it also served notice to another for keeping expired stock of medicines.

The Deputy Commissioner while sharing details said the samples collected shall be sent for lab testing to ascertain the quality of drugs and appropriate action under rules shall be initiated in case of defaulters. He said more such inspections shall be conducted in the district and sub-divisional level to keep a check on the quality of drugs being made available to the patients.

Renovation work of Kashmir Press Club to start soon

Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Syed Aabid Rashid Shah today convened a meeting of a committee constituted for the renovation of Kashmir Press Club (Aiwan-e-Sahafat) for ensuring immediate renovation of the Press Club.

During the meeting, various issues regarding the renovation of Press Club were discussed. It was decided in the meeting that the renovation work will start soon so as to make the building operational at the earliest.

The meeting was attended by the members of the committee which include Joint Director Information Kashmir, Sajid Yehaya Naqash, SE R&B, Exen Estates, Interim body (Adhoc body Press Club), represented by Shuja-ul-Haq and Asif Qureshi.

Categorization of Newspapers: DIPR seeks updated information by June 15

The Government today notified the criteria for categorization of the approved newspapers for implementation of the new advertisement rates for each category of publications.

The criteria has been uploaded on the official website of the Department of Information and Public Relations at http://www.jkdirinf.in/Upload/f25cc0fd-a8c7-40e5-bf33-810087e1e61e_criteria%20for%20categorization.pdf

The cut-off date for all the publications to meet the parameters laid down in the new criteria has been set 30thMay 2018.

All the approved newspapers and other periodicals in the State have been asked to furnish the updated information in the prescribed format (available on DIPR-JK official website) as per the new criteria by 15th June 2018 to facilitate their categorization on the merits of each publication. The requisite information can be mailed at ddiprs@gmail.com (for Kashmir division) and ddiprj17@gmail.com (for Jammu division) or can be sent by courier or delivered by hand at the offices of the Joint Director Information Kashmir, Govt Press Complex, Budshah Chowk, Srinagar and Joint Director Information Jammu, Railhead, Jammu.

The newspapers which fail to submit the requisite information within the prescribed time limit would be placed in the lowest category.

To ensure judicious and transparent distribution of advertisements to the newspapers and periodicals in the State, the Government is in the process of categorization of the approved publications in light of the guidelines laid down in Advertisement Policy-2016. The categorization of the newspapers has become imperative for the implementation of the new advertisement rate structure notified vide Govt Order No: 48-ID of 2017 dated: 23-11-2017 wherein around 50% hike has been announced in the official advertisement rates. The Government has considerably increased the Advertisement Budget from Rs 22 crore in 2014-15 to Rs 35 crore for 2018-19.

Pertinently, 467 newspapers and periodicals including 271 in Jammu and 196 in Kashmir division are presently empaneled with DIPR for release of government advertisements.

The Government has also constituted two separate sub-committees for Kashmir and Jammu divisions to review whether the newspapers and periodicals empaneled by DIPR meet the norms set out in the Advertisement Policy-2016 and recommend delisting of any approved newspaper violating the said Policy.

The sub-committees have been vested with powers to recommend delisting of the approved newspapers and periodicals in light of the Provision 6.1 of the Advertisement Policy-2016, if these publications violate the said policy in any respect.

Tassaduq Mufti tours Bandipora to reviews tourism scenario

After concluding his 3-day tour to the district including border Gurez and Tulail tehsils yesterday, the Minister for Tourism, Tassaduq Hussain Mufti convened a meeting of Officers to review meeting the development scenario of the area.

The District Development Commissioner Bandipora Khursheed Ahmad Sanaie, Director Tourism Mahmood A Shah, sectorial and district officers were present in the meeting.

The DDC in his comprehensive Power Point Presentation briefed the Minister about the developmental scenario of the district. He was informed that over Rupees 63.54 crore were utilised for execution of various developmental works during last financial year.

Reviewing the physical achievements, the Minister was informed that about 140 kilometre road length has been macadamized, 11 developmental projects including Athwatoo bridge have been completed at a cost of Rs 30 crore.8 water supply Scheme costing Rupees 21.25 crore have also been completed during last financial year.

The Minister was also informed that 4 projects have been completed at a cost of Rs. 15.30 crore under creation of new infrastructure. These 4 projects include Conference Hall, DDC Residence and DakBungalow at Sumbal and Aytmulla.

The Minister was also informed about the projects targeted for the current financial year which include 42 road, bridge, irrigation, and water supply Scheme.

The Minster expressed strong concern over the eroded hillsides, stressed the need for adopting bioengineering techniques to address the problem.

The Minister stressed the need to develop and preserve aesthetically rich heritage and natural resources of the area, the Minister directed DDC Bandipora to make teams and conduct regular recce to set a system in place for everyday grievances.

The Minister had a detailed review of R&B, PDD, Education, Forests, Agriculture and sanitation programmes.

Expressing his displeasure over the dilapidated condition of Bandipora -Gurez -Tulial and other Rural as well as Urban roads of the district, the Minister asked concerned engineers to improve the quality of engineering and produce good quality of roads.

Stressing the need for making education qualitative, the Minister questioned Chief Education Officer, Bandipora about the challenges he is facing at primary school level and asked him to streamline the system by improving the quality of education across the district.

The Minister also stressed the need for Hill Stabilization, conservation of environment and resources. He asked NHPC authorities to remove the accumulated debris at the dam site of Power Project which has polluted the local environment. The General Manager NHPC in his reply said that since the project has recently been inaugurated, all the remaining works are being carried out with in a shortest possible time.

He also took review of sanitation facilities and directed the concerned officers for creating proper Waste Disposal Management across the district to improve hygiene.

Sama Shabbir Shah student of Delhi Public School (DPS) Athwajan Srinagar Kashmir , has topped the CBSE-2018 12th class results, declared today.

Sama, who is daughter of Kashmiri separatist leader, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, has secured 97.8 percent marks in the 12th class examination. 

The DPS, Athwajan, has topped among all the CSBE affiliated schools of the territory. The school has got 99.5 percent overall results in the exams, said Pro-Vice Chairman of DPS, Srinagar, Vijay Dhar.
