Power shutdown in some parts in Srinagar on 12th and 13th May

According to the Power Controller, Kashmir Province, PDD Bemina, Srinagar, in order to carry out twining, laying of conductor of Ahmadpora Magam Beerawah line, necessary stabilization and to carry out branch pruning/cutting of trees, the 33 KV line of Kulgan-Devsar, Kulgam Yaripora, shall remain turned off on May 12 and 13 from 9 am to 5pm.

Also, 33 KV lines of Rawalpora Rangrate, Rawalpora Airforce, and Ahmadpora Magam Beerwah shall remain turned off on May 14 from 9am to 4pm and May 12, 13 and 14 from 10 am to 5 pm respectively.

Accordingly, shutdown of 33 KV lines of Habak-BAMK shall be taken on May 14 and Habak Zakura Burzhama, Habak Hazratbal, Habak Lal Bazar on May 13. Also, shutdown is also scheduled for Wanganpora BAMK, Wanganpora Khanyar, on May 15 and 33 KV line Wanganpora Soura on May 16 from 9 am to 6 pm.

Power supply to areas fed from these receiving stations shall remain affected on the said dates and times.

Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan, has ordered imposition of complete ban on sale, purchase and use of e-cigarettes in the entire Kashmir division.

The ban has been imposed keeping in view the harmful side-effects of e-cigarettes said to contain nicotine which is addictive and triggers changes in the adolescent brain and expose lungs to dicetyl that can cause a severe and irreversible lung disease.

The communications reads the defaulters will be brought to book under the law.

DC reviews arrangements for PM’s visit to Leh

In connection with the forthcoming visit of Prime Minister to Leh, Deputy Commissioner Avny Lavasa today chaired a high-level meeting to review the arrangements being made by the district administration for the Prime Minister’s visit to the district during his visit to the State on May 19.

She instructed the concerned officers to ensure that all arrangements including accommodation for VVIPs, security, transport, parking among other arrangements at the venue of the PM’s visit are made well in advance.

The DC also directed the Health department to arrange critical care ambulances with medicines at the venue of the PM visit. She directed Executive Engineer Construction Division for proper leveling of the venue and undertaking necessary patchworks of link roads in and around the venue. The concerned were also directed to ensure proper arrangements of toilets for VVIPs and the general public.

The meeting was attended by Air Officer Commanding, 21 Wing Air Force Station Leh, Chief Engineer HIMANK, Senior Superintendent of Police, Additional Deputy Commissioner, besides other senior officers of Police, PWD, PHE, BSNL, LDA, Tourism, Health, Education, Fire & Emergency Services and Transport.

Cabinet approves 0% Stamp duty, if property registered in the name of female

The Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti today accorded sanction to the reduction in Stamp Duty and nil Stamp Duty in case the property is registered in name of the female member of the family.

The Cabinet approved levying of Stamp Duty @ 5% in the Urban areas and @ 3% in the rural areas, if property is registered in the name of male member of the family, levying of Stamp Duty@ 0%, if the property in both urban as well as rural areas is registered in the name of female member of the family.

Stone pelter crushed to death by police vehicle in Srinagar

A young boy who was part of a group of youth pelting stones on security forces , was crushed to death by a police vehicle at Noor Bagh in Srinagar today.

Boy identified as Adil Ahmad Yadoo, was brought to SMHS hospital whom doctors declared brought dead.

Govt orders closure of academic private tuitioning in a high level meeting

In order to remove distractions in and around schools and to put in place a regulatory mechanism for improving the academic environment in the State, Minister for Education, Finance and Labour & Employment, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari today said all those private tuition centers which offer tuitions upto class 12th will be closed for time being and the decision in this regard will be reviewed on fortnightly basis.

However, the order shall have no bearing on coaching centres which provide coaching for professional courses for the students who have already passed 12th class examination.

The decision was taken during a meeting with the officers of Education Department including Chief Education Officers and Principals of Government Higher Secondary Schools.

During the meeting, Altaf Bukhari directed the officials to compile the list of all the teachers working in the coaching centers and also asked the school authorities to conduct a parent-teacher meeting once every week.

While directing the principals to be in regular touch with respective CEOs, Altaf Bukhari asked them to report the problem, if any, to the concerned CEO so that an appropriate decision can be taken, immediately.

The meeting was attended by Secretary School Education, Farooq Ahmad Shah, Director School Education Kashmir Dr G N Itoo, Joint Directors of School Education, CEOs of various districts of Kashmir and Principals of Higher Secondary Schools.

Seeking feedback from the heads of educational institutes, Altaf Bukhari emphasized that it is a moral as well as an ethical duty of educational heads to ensure that they treat students in their respective institutions as their own children.

Emphasizing the need for student counseling, the Minister said as academicians it is important to ensure the safety and better future of students. He said proper counseling could surely help the students towards a better future.

While urging the students to concentrate on their studies, Altaf Bukhari sought cooperation from every section of the society to ensure disruption-free academic activities in the Valley. He appealed the students to join their schools and colleges and resume their class work.

Monitoring Squads check 845 Anganwadi centres in Poonch; 184 found locked

In a major drive to ensure punctuality and regularity in government offices, Attendance Monitoring Squads constituted by District Development Commissioner, Poonch inspected various government offices in all Tehsils of District Poonch.

In a massive activity during the entire day 845 Anganwadi centres were checked out of which 184 centres were found locked. Pertinent to mention, the squad had carried a similar exercise couple of days ago. Explanation is being sought from District Programme Officer, ICDS and CDPOs concerned for lack of proper Monitoring in the department.

In another exercise by the squad in Haveli and Mandi Tehsils, two PHCs and two sub centres were found locked during the day. These include PHCs at Qasba and Arai and Sub centres at Islamabad and Dunugam.

Taking a cognizance of dereliction of duty entire staff of these four health institutions has been placed under suspension.

In another revelation a Medical officer at PHC Chandak was found to have been marked on casual Leave which BMO Mandi denied having granted any leave. Chief Medical Officer Poonch has initiated disciplinary action under rules.

During a surprise visit of the officials the District Library Poonch was also found locked at 11:30 am. Both the Incharge Librarian and Junior Librarian have been placed under suspension.

District administration Poonch has taken a major initiative to ensure punctuality in government offices for an effective public service delivery. The absenteeism is being dealt with under Rules Governing the service matters.

Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti today stressed the need for reviving the teachings of Hazrat Amir Kabir Mir Syed Ali Hamdani (R. A.) saying these hold the key to many of the issues confronting humanity in the present day world.

Speaking at a seminar-Shah i Hamdan-The savior of our soul in Srinagar today, the Chief Minister said the present day society which lives in a state of social recession and cultural crisis needs to go back to the teachings and philosophy of Hazrat Amir e Kabir (R.A.) to get back on the path of virtue, peace and progress.

Mehbooba Mufti paid rich tributes to Hazrat Amir e Kabir (R.A.) saying the whole of Jammu & Kashmir is highly indebted to this great saint for having trained the people in many sectors, besides spiritual awakening, in areas of art and craft for which the State has been acclaimed world over. “The respected saint gave us a model of humanity, tolerance devoid of violence, coupled with skill empowerment and social inclusion”, she said in her address.

The Chief Minister said she has been pleading the opening of all historic routes in the State through which the 14th century saint came to Jammu & Kashmir to spread his message of love, tolerance and empowerment. The idea, she said, is to relive the spirit of the teachings of the said saint which led to an era of enlightenment, empowerment and skill in the State.

Mehbooba Mufti said it was satisfying to note that despite the turmoil of past 30 years or so the local economy sustained predominantly because of handicraft sector which was introduced here by Hazrat Amir e Kabir (R.A.) and his companions. She said since then the State is acclaimed for its skill and workmanship world over and its people for their intelligence.

The Chief Minister appealed the Imams and ulema to come forward and help the younger generation by showing them the right path as practiced and preached by Hazrat Shah I Hamdan.  She said unfortunately Muslim ummah around the world has been caught in a web of violence and it is utmost responsibility of the religious scholars to help the society from getting drifted on a wrong track. “You should debate that why the whole Muslim community is getting caught in violence and why are we leaving areas like education, public welfare and community service on which thrust has been laid in Islam and which is amply reflected in the philosophy of Hazrat Amir e Kabir (R.A.)”, she said in her address.

Mehbooba Mufti said one of the ways to practice the teachings of Amir e Kabir (R.A.) would be to restore the pride and respect in the society of religious scholars, Imams, custodians of shrines and preachers of divine knowledge. She said that she is well aware of the respect and command they ought to have in the society adding that the loss of respect for the religious scholars in the society has led to societal decay and erosion of social values in the system which ought to be reversed.

The Chief Minister complimented the Wakf Board for holding such a programme which she said would help in making more people aware about the teachings and philosophy of Hazrat Amir e Kabir (R.A.). She advised Wakf Board to organize more such programmes in other parts of the State as well.

The Chief Minister, on the occasion, honoured six best students from various schools who had participated in essay competition on the life and teachings of Hazrat Shah I Hamdan. She also honoured seven craftsmen who had done significant innovations in different trades and five Imams who have done pioneering work in spreading the message of Hazrat Amir e Kabir (R.A.).

Minister for Technical Education, Youth Services & Sports, Moulvi Imran Raza Ansari; renowned Islamic scholars, Mufti Rehmatullah Qasmi and Prof. Muhammad Tayyib Kamili also addressed the session and recalled the role and contribution of Hazrat Amir e Kabeer (R.A.) in the social, political and economic upliftment of the people in the State.

Vice Chairman, J&K Muslim Wakf Board, Nizamuddin Bhat on the occasion threw light on the objective of holding such a seminar.

Earlier, several leading scholars and historians presented their papers on varied aspects of the life and teachings of Hazrat Amir e Kabir (R.A.).

Avalanche warning issued for Kashmir areas, Ladakh

Divisional Administration Kashmir Monday issued an avalanche warning for next 24-hours for hilly and avalanche prone areas of Kashmir Valley and Ladakh region.

“Avalanche warning valid for next 24-hours from March 19 to March 20, 2018, exists for avalanche prone slopes of Kupwara, Bandipora, Baramulla, Anantnag, Kulgam, Budgam, Ganderbal, Kargil and Leh districts of Kashmir Division,” a statement of the Divisional Administration said.

Accordingly, all concerned Deputy Commissioners have been asked to take precautionary measures in their respective districts and advise people not to venture in avalanche prone areas during the aforementioned period and monitor the situation regularly to avert any untoward incident.

Boost confidence of students: Altaf Bukhari tells academicians

Minister for Education, Finance, Labour   & Employment, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari today asked academicians to boost confidence among the students so that they can prove their mettle in various spheres of life.

“By incorporating a bit of confidence and boosting their morale, our students can do miracles and prove that they are second to none,” Bukhari said adding “there is a feeling among the students of Jammu and Kashmir that they are being deprived of many privileges that are enjoyed by the students in other states.”

The Minister was speaking as a Chief Guest at the commencement of two-day national seminar on “Assessment and Evaluation” organized by Cluster University Srinagar at Institute of Advanced Studies in Education at M A Road in Srinagar.

Vice Chancellor, Cluster University Srinagar, Prof. Dr Sheikh Javaid; Director School Education, Kashmir, Dr GN Itoo; Professors from Delhi University, Principals from various colleges and Higher Secondary Schools, academicians, paper presenters, teachers and students and other concerned officials of Education Department were present on the occasion.

Bukhari said that our colleges and schools should not make students see low at themselves as they are the future of the nation. “We need to encourage our students to do well and show them the right direction for their better future.”He told the academicians to change the system of education and access the students by what they are in classrooms.

“Students are already overburdened by the amount of work they have to do, both at schools and at private tuition centres. This consumes their time and energy and they get a little time to assimilate knowledge,” he added.

While congratulating management of Cluster University for organizing such a seminar, Bukhari said that the aim of this seminar is how to make the process of evaluation better. Through this seminar, Bukhari said, “we hope that our academicians will come up with some fruitful suggestions and recommendations for the betterment of Education system.”

Bukhari asked the academicians to look into the reasons why the marks percentage of J&K students is lower than the students of the other states. He said that many of the brilliant students are not able to seek admissions in various outside colleges and universities because of their low percentage.

He said the role of teachers besides imparting formal education should be to widen the mental horizon of students. He said the teachers should help in channelizing potential of students towards creative activities.

Addressing the audience, Prof. Dr Sheikh Javaid said that the Education Department needs to bring the education system at par with national and international standards. He said that the educational institutions should not only be only the degree providers but should also lead to the intellectual brilliance in the students.
