SMC, LAWDA continue demolition drive in Srinagar

LAWDA removes encroachments in Srinagar

The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) and Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) continued the demolition drive in the city for the third consecutive day today.

Several illegal constructions that had been raised around Dal Lake and other parts of Srinagar by some unscrupulous elements while taking advantage of the prevailing law and order situation, were removed by the enforcement authorities of LAWDA and SMC during the demolition drive.

According to Enforcement Officer LAWDA, five structures were demolished inside the Dal Lake today with the assistance of police.

The Commissioner SMC and Vice-Chairman LAWDA have cautioned the people against indulging in encroachments under the garb of the prevailing situation. They have sought people’s cooperation in preventing the historic city of Srinagar from falling prey to the greed of the encroachers and land-grabbers.

They said that residents of various localities in Srinagar have approached SMC and LAWDA and pleaded for stern action against the people who have indulged in encroachments and illegal constructions during the past few days.
