Congress President, Sonia Gandhi, Sunday, visited the Fairview residence to personally convey condolences to Member Parliament and PDP President, Mehbooba Mufti, on the demise of her father, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, former Chief Minister.
She was accompanied by the Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha and former Chief Minister of the state, Ghulam Nabi Azad, senior Congress leader, Ambika Soni, President, Pradesh Congress Committee, G. A. Mir and former PCC President, Saif-ud-Din Soz.
Paying rich tributes, the Congress President said the death of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was a huge loss for the country. She also met the other family members, including Begum Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, and expressed solidarity in their hour of grief.
Sonia had also visited All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi, where Mufti Sayeed was undergoing treatment after he had complained of exhaustion during his hectic tour of Srinagar on December 22 last month.
Following his death on January 7, the Congress President had hailed him as a humanist, whose contribution in various capacities in public life would be remembered forever.
