The 434-kilometre strategic Srinagar-Leh highway was closed on Sunday for vehicular traffic until April next year.
The Sonamarag traffic point was shifted to Traffic Police Lines Srinagar and their will be no traffic movement neither from Sonamarag to Drass or in the opposite direction during winter months.
The highway remains closed for almost five months from Mid-December to April every year due to cold, slippery road conditions, landslides and heavy accumlation of snow on 48-kilometre-long hilly stretch of the highway from Sonamarag to Drass.
