Stadium XI has won the District Handball Championship outplaying Government Degree College (GDC) Kathua by a thin margin of 19-18 in the final played at Sports Stadium in Kathua on Saturday.
Saleem Ahmed and Naseeb were highest scorers from winning Stadium XI team with five goals each while Harshatri netted maximum five goals for GDC Kathua. Kulbushan Singh and Rakesh Kumar officiated the final.
In the valedictory function of this three-day championship, organized by District Handball Association Kathua, general secretary of the J&K Handball Association (JKHA), Ashwani Kumar Raina was chief guest, who gave away the winners and runners-up trophies. Manager Sports Stadium Kathua, Shamsher Singh was guests of honour.
Earlier, president of the district association, Pawan Sharma welcomed the distinguished gathering and presented a brief note of the championship. District Championship was sponsored by the J&K State Sports Council.
Among others who were present included Rajinder Kumar (joint secretary JKHA), Sandeep Verma (press secretary JKHA) and Sanjeev Jamwal (executive member JKHA).
