250 women ambassadors appointed under BBBP

A one-day orientation meeting with BBBP ambassadors in Udhampur

The District Administration has appointed more than 250 women officials from various institutions, offices, villages and organizations as ambassadors for scheme “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” a  flagship programme launched by Union Ministry of Women and Child Development for improving gender ratio and girl child education.

          A one-day orientation meeting was convened with all the BBBP ambassadors for creating awareness and reaching out to every household in the district for improvement in gender ration, encouraging education of girl child, identifying the needy meritorious girl students, requirements of admission fee, hostel accommodation, scholarship, books etc.

          District Development Commissioner Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary briefed the BBBP ambassadors about their duties and called upon them to work selflessly for this cause. Highlighting a series of events and exercises carried out on the subject in last one year he underlined the responsibilities of the BBBP ambassadors in encouraging education of girl child, eliminating dropout cases at various levels, identifying the gaps for education and welfare of girl students. He also briefed about the activities to be taken up by field officials of Health and Education Departments in this regard.

          The District Level BBBP Ambassadors’ Council will meet once in every quarter while the District Task Force is having regular meetings to carry out targeted interventions in various sectors aimed at improving education, security of livelihood, safety and skill development for girl students.

          Chief Medical Officer Dr Chander Parkash and Medical Superintendent Dr Narinder Bhutial briefed the ambassadors about the extension centers established by Health Department under BBBP in district a series of activities being organised which are required to be supervised by them.

          Chief Education Officer Bishen Singh elaborated on the support to be extended by educational institutions.
