Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Jammu Region is going to hold the yearly Red Cross Mela on February 6 and 7, 2016 at Police Gulshan Grounds Jammu.
Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Dr. Pawan Kotwal, who is Chairman Regional Red Cross Society gave this information while chairing a meeting convened to review the arrangements for the annual Red Cross Mela, here today.
Speaking at the meeting, Dr. Kotwal said that the objective of organizing the Red Cross Mela was to create awareness among the general masses regarding Red Cross Society and generate funds for the welfare activities of the society. He stressed for greater involvement of government agencies, social organizations and NGOs for smooth conduct of mela and hoped that the participating public would spread the message of Red Cross among their peer groups and all those who come in their contact in day to day life.
Detailed discussions were held with regard to arrangements for preparation of site plan and installation of stalls, preparation for inaugural and closing ceremony, parking, publicity, display of banners, cultural items, bands, uninterrupted power and water supply, security, sanitation, fire services and medicare at the venue during the mela days.
The Divisional Commissioner directed the Municipal authorities to display banners on prominent points, make available mobile toilets units and deploy additional safai karamcharies to ensure cleanliness in and around the venue. The Information Department was asked to give vide publicity of the event through print and electronic media. The SSP Traffic and SSP Jammu were asked to ensure security and smooth flow of traffic to contain congestions and traffic jams in the area.
The meeting was told that departmental stalls would be installed by different government departments along with stalls by Army, Air Force for displaying their schemes and products during the mela days. The Divisional Commissioner suggested for constituting a committee to oversee the process of layout and allotment of space for stalls. He also directed the PDD to install a stall to highlight schemes of power sector.
To make the event more attractive, various government and private schools and other organizations would put up Joy Rides and organize Magic Shows, cultural items, painting and singing competition, Dog Show, Baby Show, Tambola, Sham-e-Ghazal and Photo Exhibition on rich cultural heritage of Jammu and Kashmir would be some other highlights of the Mela.
The stalls selling state cuisines like Wazwan, Kehva and Kebab, Dogri Food, Fast Food & Ice Cream would also be installed at the Mela to make it more attractive.
The Divisional Commissioner asked the concerned to work with synergy and maintain close liaison with each other to make the event a grand success.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Regional Red Cross Society, R.C. Puri, SSP Jammu, Uttam Chand, SP Traffic Mohan Lal, Joint Commissioner JMC, R. S Jamwal, Joint Director Tourism, Namrita Dogra, General Manager JKTDC, Anju Gupta, besides senior officers of concerned departments, officers of Army, BSF, Air Force, Principals of various degree colleges and representatives of various NGOs.
It was informed in the meeting that the Raffle Draw-2015 scheduled for 20th December, 2015 has been postponed to 7th February, 2016 at Gulshan Grounds, Jammu.
Accordingly, the sale proceed of Raffle Draw tickets have also been extended further up to 31st January, 2016 instead of 15th December, 2015 and its remittance will be deposited in the office of Hony Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu Region, Kachi Chawani, Jammu by or before the scheduled date.
