On the occasion of International Mountain Day, the Department of Tourism Jammu and Kashmir in collaboration with J&K Mountaineering and Hiking Club organized a programme at SKICC. Colonel J. S. Chowhaan, president Indian Mountaineering Federation was the chief guest. Director Tourism Mehmood Ahmad Shah, Ex Director Tourism Mohammad Ashraf and a large number of trekkers were also present on the occasion.
A film on climbers of K2 Mountain was screened in the first session to help trekkers to get acquainted with various facets of mountaineering. It was told that Harmukh Mountain was trekked for the first time and a picture of the same was also shown in the session. The achievements of department of tourism were also highlighted through a video presentation.
The chief guest while highlighting the importance of mountaineering said that Jammu and Kashmir is a known destination for mountaineering and it is imperative to set up a Mountaineering training institute here to train climbers and make it a full-fledged activity. He assured every possible support from IMF in this regard.
