As part of World Heritage Week celebrations, an exhibition on food preparation and presentation of the authentic Dogra Cuisine was today organized by Food Craft Institute, Jammu under the aegis of Department of Culture.
Secretary, Department of Culture Hemant Kumar Sharma inaugurated the exhibition.
A number of Institutes like Government Higher Secondary School Mubarak Mandi, Government College for women Parade, School of Hospitality and Tourism Management participated in the event to highlight and propagate majestic cuisine of Dogra Culture.
A number of stalls depicting various Dogra cuisines were put on display for wide spread awareness and publicity. The cuisine like Khatte Rajmash, Maash Dal Madra, Dal Chana, Ambal, Kyoor, Thothru, Saade Chawal, are being exhibited in these food stalls.
While appreciating the efforts of Food Craft Institute, the Secretary said that the Dogra cuisine is part of the heritage of the state and the event has been specially organised during the world heritage week celebrations so that the students and youngsters come to know about old food traditions. He laid stress on preserving old cuisines and called on the institute to keep organising such exhibitions on regular basis.
Dr. O.P. Vidhyarti in his speech acquainted the audience with the features, potential of various herbs used in the Dogra cuisine in the past and highlighted their importance for human body and mind.
Prominent among those who were present on the occasion include, Dr. O.P. Vidyarthi, Chief Conservator, Forest Department, Dr. Anita Billowria, Director Heritage Studies University of Jammu , S.M Sahni, Convener INTACH, Jammu Chapter, Jyoti Bhatti, Principal Food Craft Institute, Peerzada Mohammad Ashraf, Deputy Director, Archives Archaeology and Museums, Jammu.
