Governor N.N Vohra and Mrs. Usha Vohra, First Lady, attended the valedictory function of “1965 War Golden Jubilee Golf Cup Championship” at Usman Officers Institute yesterday evening. This Championship, in which both the civilians and the Army personnel participated, has been organized to commemorate Golden Jubilee year of the 1965-war. The Jammu and Kashmir Golf Association in collaboration with Kohler Power Corporation hosted this day-long 1965 Golden Jubilee Golf Cup at Miran Sahib Golf Course. Earlier in the morning, the Governor inaugurated the Championship where three teams from the Western Command, the Northern Command and the J&K Golf Association participated. Dr Nirmal Singh, Deputy Chief Minister, who is also the chairman of Organising Committee; Mr. Chander Prakash Ganga, Minister for Industries and Commerce; Mr. K. Rajendra Kumar, Director General of Police J&K; Lt. Gen. (Retd.) B.S. Jaswal, former Army Commander and Lt. Gen. R.R Nimbhorkar, GoC 16 Corps were among those present on the occasion.
Complimenting the hosts for organizing the event, the Governor observed that such events help in fostering deeper understandings between the Armed Forces and the Civil Society and, therefore, it would be useful for such events being organized on a sustained basis. He observed that close associations between these two important elements of the community is required to share each others’ joys and sorrows.
Mrs. Vohra, on the occasion, presented trophies to the winning women golfers.
The Welcome Address on the occasion was presented by Lt. Gen. (Retd.) B.S. Jaswal, former Northern Army Commander.
A large number of Army, Police and civilian officers along with their families, were among those present on the occasion.
