J&K to host first ever National Level Women competitions from Dec 12 to 15

To discuss and finalize the modalities for conducting the first ever National level Women competitions (Group III) in the state, Director General Youth Services and Sports, Jahangir Mir convened a meeting of officers here today.

Various issues related to the smooth conduct of the event were discussed comprehensively during the meeting which include  transportation, boarding and lodging of the participants ,medical  facilities, sanitation in and around the venue and other related issues.

Elaborating on the event DG YS&S informed that the event will be held from Dec 12th to 15th 2015 at two main venues Sports Stadium  Frontier BSF, Paloura  and Indoor Complex M.A. Stadium. He said that about 600 participants   from about 25 states will be participating in Athletics, Table Tennis and Badminton competitions.

Underscoring the importance of hosting first ever national level women competitions in the state, DG YS&S exhorted upon the officers present in the meeting to extend maximum cooperation to the department for smooth and successful conduct of the prestigious event. He asked the officers of the concerned departments to ensure that necessary arrangements are put in place on time so that the event is conducted successfully.

Stressing on the need for putting in the concerted efforts by all the concerned departments, Mr. Jahangir Mir said that no stone should be left unturned for making the event a grand success in the state.

Mr. Mir said that such events provide platform to the youth especially women for promoting their sports talent and a series of such events will be held across the state in the coming months.  It will also create awareness among the masses regarding importance of rural and traditional sports. He said that the event is being organized under Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan and recently a similar National Level Women (U-17) Cricket tournament and Football (U-19 boys) was also hosted by the department.  He said that the department of Youth Services and Sports is organizing various sports activities at block and district level under different age groups, besides has included 44 sports disciplines in the annual calendar of activities for the year 2015-16.

He said that Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan aims at promoting sports as a way of life among the youth and to extent better sports facilities throughout the country.

DG expressed hope that the event will provide requisite exposure to our sportspersons and give fillip to the sports activities in the state.

The meeting was attended by the officers of different departments.
