No policy at present to regularize casual workers

Minister for Irrigation and Flood Control and PHE, Mr Sham Choudhary, today said that government has no policy for regularization of casual workers engaged after imposition of ban who are beyond the scope of SRO-64 of 1994.

Responding to a Calling Attention Notice by Mr Davinder Singh Rana, the Minister said a high-level committee, vide Government Order No: 65-F of 2016 Dated 03-03-2016, has been constituted to look into the magnitude of problems faced by casual workers.

“The Committee will also look into the Finance, Legal and Administrative issues that may arise in regularization of such employees and to work out an appropriate policy outlining all possible options in this regard,” the Minister said.

Moreover, profiling of these workers through biometric attendance has also been initiated to capture the details of such workers which shall be accomplished within a time-bound manner.

          Mr Choudhary said the continued strike of the PHE casual workers in partially affecting the smooth water supply in all the Districts of Jammu Division, “However, the permanent staff available in the Department are regulating the water supply in all the Districts and every possible effort is being made to supply water to the consumers,” he said.
