The minor girl who went missing from her home in central district of Budgam on Monday has been reunited with family, an official said.
He said that the girl, identified as Syed Sameena, a 10th class student, ran away from home in Daharmuna village – 16 kms from Srinagar – on Monday after “she couldn’t bear the pressure built up by her family to secure first position in her board exams”.
In four hours after her father, Syed Ataullah, lodged a missing report at police post Soibug, the girl was traced by police courtesy the wide publicity of look-out notice on social media networks, print and electronic media.
The minor had left home to collect admit card from school for her 10th class exams, which began on Tuesday.
SSP Budgam Fayaz Ahmad Lone said that the girl was spotted wandering aimlessly near Budgam railway station by a family residing in nearby Narkara locality.
The minor spent the Monday night at the house of Abdul Samad Paul in Narkara, he added.
“He called up the police following which a police team headed towards Narkara and identified the minor,” Lone said.
The girl was re-united with the family on Tuesday night, he said.
“My parents had told everyone in the family and my relatives that I would top in the board examination. I was not sure so I had to run away,” the girl told the police.
