Vaid addresses police durbar, stresses on strengthening relations with public

Director General of Police (DGP), Dr. S. P. Vaid has exhorted the cops to continue people friendly policing to seek public cooperation in confronting the law breakers. He said that public contribution in different areas of policing is mandatory to achieve more successes and maintaining peace and order in the State.

Dr. Vaid was addressing cops at a police durbar of Central Kashmir Range at District Police Lines here today.  He said that Jammu and Kashmir Police is unique for its multifarious duties and it is imperative for the force to work in close coordination with the pubic in order to garner cooperation. The force being a law enforcing body has to deal anti-social elements at different fronts to safeguard interests of public, besides ensuring rule of law in the State, he added.

DGP said that our personnel are facing unenviable situations while dealing with the anti-national elements but our priority should be to avoid losses to our citizens by exercising maximum restraint. He reiterated that JKP is firm to provide best services to the people and we have to prove our commitment by ensuring dignity and honour of common masses.

Dr. Vaid said that police station is the primary unit of the organization which could strengthen our bonds with the public and it is responsibility of Thana personnel to bring change in public perception about the force. He said that people come to police stations with complaints and high expectations to get their matters solved.  A sympathetic approach by the Thana personnel scripts an image of the force in his mind and any misconception will affect the image of the organization, said Dr. Vaid. He asked to have a good approach towards complainants while registering their complaints and provide them justice without considering their creed or caste.

Earlier, Dr. Vaid chaired a meeting of police officers of Central Kashmir Range and discussed various issues related to law and order situation and welfare of cops. He Asked the o, who in turn would work as a partner with the force in its fight against anti- national elements. He stressed the officers to gear up their subordinate units for taking pro-people initiatives and give them a sense of friendship.

DGP said that law and order situation in the state is our priority and in coordination with other security agencies we have to put in place all preventive measures and thwart the sinister designs of elements inimical to peace. Activities of anti-national elements need to be kept under surveillance for which intelligence grid needs to be improved further.

Deliberating on the welfare measures for the cops, DGP said that PHQ is aware of the difficulties, our personnel are facing in the field while performing in hostile conditions. He said that we have already initiated to enhance basic amenities for the personnel and some more welfare schemes would be introduced after deliberations in the Central Police Welfare Committee meeting, which would be held in the coming days. He asked the officers to gather suggestions from all subordinate formations for further discussion in the meeting.

DGP disclosed that health care of our personnel is focussed on priority and we are pondering new areas to enhance facilities for cops and their families. Specialized medical treatment for the cops and their families is being discussed with Shri Mata Vashno Devi Narayana Super Speciality Hospital Katra and the modalities would be finalized after threadbare discussions with the authorities of Hospital. Also insurance cover would be provided to the personnel for which prestigious companies are being approached, said the DGP.

Among others, the durbar and meeting was attended by IGP Kashmir Zone, SJM Gillani, DIG CKR, GH Bhat, SSP, Imtiyaz Ismail Parray, all Zonal SsP, all Dy.SsP, all SDPOs, Dy.SP DAR and other police officers.
