Women empowerment prerequisite to ensure equal rights: Dy CM

Women's day celebrations in Kathua

To commemorate the International Women`s Day a programme was today organized at Town Hall Kathua where Dy CM, Dr Nirmal Singh was the chief Guest.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Singh said the objective of observing the International Women’s Day is to change the way the society looks at the women and ensure a world where the only limit on them is their talent not gender. He said the responsibility to provide a conducive and protective atmosphere to the girl child rests first with the family and then on the society at large.

The Dy CM said that the present Government has introduced some path-breaking women welfare schemes including Laadli Beti, Aasra and Marriage Assistance in the State to address the concerns of girl child right from the birth to adulthood and provide financial security to them. “As we celebrate International Women’s Day this year let us also bear in mind that the struggle is far from over. Be Bold for Change by taking groundbreaking action that truly drives the greatest change for women’s empowerment that should never be reduced to individual success stories. It should be about collective well-being”, he said.

On the occasion, several women staff members of Municipal Council Kathua were felicitated for their dedication and hard work.

Highlighting the role of women in every sphere of life, Dr Singh said that entire world celebrates this day with lot of enthusiasm to highlight the endeavours and achievements of the women in different capacities which give them courage and freedom to perform much better in life.

Dr Nirmal Singh also lauded the achievements of Dr Shivakshi Jasrotia of Kathua who won the prestigious Best Innovation Project Award at the first BRICS-EAEU meet, held at Moscow besides the mention of Kathua in Prime Minister`s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio programme for achieving distinguished feet in Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative.

Later, Dy CM met with several deputations that mainly comprised   NHM employees and Ex-Servicemen.

Among others Mamta Singh, Adv Poornima Sharma, SWB member Updesh Andotra and prominent citizens were present in large numbers.
