Under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Mr. G. M. Dar, a joint visit to New Fruit Mandi and New Industrial Estate was conducted by Horticulture Planning and Marketing, Flood Control Department, Irrigation Department, SICOP, Revenue and Industries Departments. A delegation of Fruit growers led by Peer Mohammad Amin was also part of the visit.
Deputy Commissioner took stock of the works going on in both the projects and directed the concerned to provide additional land for expansion of Fruit Mandi. He further directed that a separate approach road connecting the two projects with Lassipora Estate be constructed as an alternate road.
Rs.60 lakh has been spent so far on the Mandi project, which will come up at an estimated cost of Rs. 40 crore, and work is going on in full swing.
The work of fencing around Industrial Estate, Cold Storage facilities and other facilities is also going on at rapid pace.
Fruit Mandi Project is important for Shopian District in which fruit industry has annual turnover of Rs. 800 crore.
