Mehbooba pays tributes to Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah on birth anniversary

Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti has paid rich tributes to former Chief Minister, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah on his 111th birth anniversary being observed on December 5.

In her message, the Chief Minister said the late leader was visionary in his approach who would always be remembered for taking many revolutionary steps including introduction of Single Line Administration in the State.

Mehbooba Mufti also prayed for eternal solace to the late leader.

Mehbooba visits Kulgam, reviews developmental scenario

Mehbooba Inaugurates Degree College at Kilam, Nursing School at Kandipora; Lays foundation of officers’ residential complex

Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti today visited Kulgam and took on the spot review of the developmental projects in the district. She also inaugurated many of the utilities in the district.

The Chief Minister inaugurated a Degree College at Kilam. She went round various blocks of the college and sought details of the course curriculum and intake capacity.

On the occasion, Mehbooba Mufti announced that both medical and non-medical streams besides Functional English would be taught at the college.

The Chief Minister also inaugurated a branch of the J&K Bank and ATM facility at Kilam which was a long-pending demand of the people of the area.

Later, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone of Maternal & Children block of the District Hospital, Kulgam. Comprising 50 beds, the block would be completed within two years. The addition of this block would give a big relief to the children of the area who have to be shifted to Srinagar or Anantnag in the event of any ailment.

Mehbooba Mufti sought strict adherence to the time schedule of the projects from the engineers adding that no scope should be left to extend the completion deadline. She also directed early repairs of the lift system at the District Hospital.

The Chief Minister also inaugurated General Nursing & Mid-Wifery School at Kandipora. Built over a cost of Rs 5 crore, the school would have facilities of lecture halls, labs and other facilities. She also laid foundation stone of a nearby residential complex for officers which would be built over a cost of Rs 68 lakhs and would have 40 apartments.

En-route the Chief Minister interacted with several deputations, many of them comprising women, who sought redress of their day to day grievances. Mehbooba Mufti listened to their demands patiently and assured them of appropriate and time-bound action.

Lt Gen D Anbu visits Srinagar

On his maiden visit to the Valley just a couple of days after taking over the reins of the Udhampur based Northern Command, Lt Gen D Anbu arrived in Srinagar on 03 Dec for a two days tour to review the security in 15 Corps.

He was briefed by the Chinar Corps Commander Lt Gen JS Sandhu in Badami Bagh Cantt on the overall security situation and major operational, logistical and administrative aspects pertaining to the Corps.

During his two days stay ,Gen Anbu visited the frontier areas of Baramulla, Uri and Kupwara where he was briefed by the GOsC of Baramulla and Kupwara Divisions and other local commanders on all the measures taken by the Army along the LC to beat back any misadventure from across. During his interaction with officers and men on ground, the Army Commander lauded their high levels of operational preparedness, vigil and morale and exhorted them to remain alert for any eventuality.

The General officer, also visited the hinterland formations at Sharifabad and Awantipur where he was given a first hand account on the ground situation. Complimenting the troops for their utmost professionalism, the Army Commander urged all to sustain the pressure on all terrorist groups operating in the Valley and also to continue with the humanitarian initiatives to help the Civil Administration in alleviating the problems of the people. He appreciated the synergy being maintained amongst all the security agencies which he said was the most critical aspect of counter terrorist operations.

Civilian killed in an encounter in Kashmir

One civilian has been killed in an encounter between militants and security forces in Kulgam.

Killed civilian have been identified as  Assadullah Kumar R/O Mandhol Kulgam. He was working in fishries department. He was injured in cross firing and was rushed to hospital but succumbed to injuries.

In the meantime protests have erupted near Vessu Quazigund on National Highway over the death of fisheries employee in Kulgam Firing. Traffic has also been halted.

470 Rehbar-e-Taleems (ReTs) of Kashmir division regularized

Director School Education Kashmir, Aijaz Ahmad Bhat, has issued orders for regularization of services of 470 Rehbar-e-Taleems (ReTs) of Kashmir division.

“470 ReTs have been regularized including 82 from Anantnag, 44 from Bandipora, 49 from Baramulla, 51 from Budgam, 35 from Kulgam, 77 from Kupwara, 01 from Leh, 24 from Kargil, 24 from Ganderbal, 22 from Shopian, 43 from Pulwama and 18 from Srinagar district,” the statement issued by DSEK said.

       The Director School Education said that efforts are being made to sort out all the pending issues so as to develop an efficient work culture in the department. He said process of regularization shall continue on fast-track basis.

Cabinet approves Rehabilitation Package for Displaced Families from Pakistan occupied Jammu & Kashmir and Chhamb under the Prime Minister’s Development Package for Jammu & Kashmir, 2015

The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has approved Central Assistance of Rs. 2000 crore for one time settlement of 36,384 displaced families from Pakistan occupied areas of Jammu & Kashmir (POJK) and Chhamb following an announcement of Prime Minister’s Development Package for Jammu & Kashmir-2015 in November, 2015

As per the package, Rs. 5.5 lakh cash benefit per family will be disbursed to the displaced families to enable them to earn an income and subsist their livelihood. The amount will be released to the State Government of J&K to be disbursed to eligible families through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

In the aftermath of partition of the country in 1947, thousands of families from Pakistan occupied areas of Jammu & Kashmir migrated to the State of Jammu & Kashmir. Subsequently, during Indo-Pak Wars of 1965 and 1971, a large number of families were displaced from Chhamb Niabat area of Jammu & Kashmir. Series of relief and rehabilitation packages have been extended by the Government of India/State Government of J&K from time to time to mitigate the hardship of displaced persons from PoJK and Chhamb and to rehabilitate them.
