Mehbooba Mufti expressed solidarity with the families of the slain jawans

Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti today laid wreath on the mortal remains of seven Army personnel killed in a militant attack yesterday at Nagrota, Jammu.

The Chief Minister expressed solidarity with the families of the slain jawans and officers and prayed for peace to the departed souls.

Mehbooba Mufti said the cycle of violence has brought immense miseries to the people of the State who want an end to it.

Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh also laid floral wreath on the mortal remains of the Army personnel. He paid rich tributes to the martyred officers and jawans and expressed solidarity with their families.

Director General of Police, K Rajendra Kumar, senior officers of Army and civil administration were present at the wreath-laying ceremony.

Fidayeen attack on army camp in Nagrota Jammu

Three terrorists have been killed and 7 army Personnels  have been martyered In Nagrota area some 20 kms from Jammu City, when two-three armed terrorists attacked an army camp at 5:45 am.

Official sources informed that it is a Fidayeen Attack (suicide attack) on Army at Nagrota area in Jammu and 2-3 armed terrorists hurled grenade and open firing when attacked 166 Field Regiment camp of army at Nagrota area in Jammu district.

The PRO Defence, Jammu, Lt Col Manish Mehta however confirmed the incident but he is yet to more confirm the details. Nagrota is also headquarters of 16 Corps of army.

Following the attack, DC Jammu , Simrandeep Singh have ordered closure of all schools in Nagrota area for today. Traffic movement on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway also disrupted due to this attack.

Meanwhile, in another incident three armed terrorists infiltrated into Indian territory from International Border at Chambliyal area in Ramgarh sector. All the three were killed in the Encounter between Pak terrorists and joint teams of BSF-POLICE-ARMY.

Balwant Thakur nominated as member of the NEAC of ICCR

The Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India has nominated Balwant Thakur as member of the National Empanelment Advisory Committee of Indian Council for Cultural Relations for a period of three years. This high powered committee is mandated to select and recommend the artists/groups for their performances world over. This National Empanelment Advisory Committee will be above the seven sub committees of experts viz Theatre and Puppetry Traditional & Contemporary), Carnatic Music (Vocal and Instrumental), Hindustani Music (Vocal and Instrumental), Dance I (Odissi, Manipuri, Sattriya, Kathak, Chhau), Dance II (Bhartanatyam, Mohiattam, Kuchipudi, Kathakali) Modren Experimental works of Dance and Music, including Light and Popular Music, and Folk and other Traditional forms of Dance and Music. Earlier on two occasions Balwant Thakur has served as an expert in sub committees of Theatre/puppetry and Folk/Traditional forms of Music/Dance/Drama but this is for the first time that a person from J&K has been elevated to such a higher position. The Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Ministry of External Affairs, the major sponsor of the showcasing of India’s culture abroad sends over 150 groups to foreign countries and this high powered committee of which Balwant Thakur is a member will be responsible for the selection/recommendation of the artists/groups for their performances abroad.
Balwant Thakur is considered to be the largely travelled abroad cultural personality of India who has a deep rooted knowledge of the performance level and the quality required of the artists for their International performances. Balwant Thakur has already successfully presented his presentations at Bangkok (Thailand) Singapore, Kula Lumpur (Malaysia) London, Oxford, Brighton, Manchester, Birmingham, Stratford, (U.K.) Berlin, Frankfurt, (Germany), Rome, Florence, Venice (Italy) Moscow, Yoroslov, Belgrade, St. Petersburg, (Russia) Turkey, Shanghai, Bejing, Nanjing, Xining, Tianjin, Shenzhen, Qingdao (China) Almaty, Bishkek, Denmark, Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhaabi, and Dhaka. Mehbooba meets Modi, appraises about the latest situation

CM Mehbooba Mufti meets PM Narendra Modi

Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti today called on Prime Minister, Narendra Modi here today and apprised him about the latest situation in the State.

The Chief Minister highlighted the need for reaching out to the people of the State and taking various steps in this regard. She said people of Jammu & Kashmir have suffered immensely during the immediate past, particularly during the last few months, and requested for taking measures for extending relief to them.

Mehbooba Mufti also underlined the need for taking Jammu & Kashmir specific Confidence Building Measures, more because of the losses suffered by every segment of society in the State during the turmoil of past few months.

The Prime Minister was supportive of the ideas of the Chief Minister and assured her all support from the Central Government.

The Chief Minister also brought into the notice of the Prime Minister the demand for additional funding for Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Food Entitlement Scheme in view of the huge number of beneficiaries living in far flung and border areas who have not yet been able to take benefit of the scheme properly.

Mehbooba Mufti also requested for a central package of incentives for industries in Jammu & Kashmir given the fact that business activity in the State remained extremely low during this summer. She also sought 50% quota in All India Services for the officers of J&K cadre.

JMC introduces maiden Super-Sucker Machine in Jammu

To deal effectively with waste management, and clogging of drains and nallahs in the winter capital, the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) today introduced maiden Super-Sucker Machine in the city.

The Super-Sucker Machine was formally made operational at a function organized by JMC at M A Stadium here today. Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh was the chief guest on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Chief Minister said operationalization of the Super-Sucker Machine is a technology-driven sanitation process which will go a long way into converting Jammu into a Smart city. The machine will help resolve various problems faced by the people due to water logging, sewer line and drainage blockages in the city, Dr Singh added.

He said the machine will regularly perform cleaning and maintenance operations of the drainage lines, extract sewerage and discharge sludge at pre-assigned places in an environment-friendly and hygienic manner.

The mechanical unit of Jammu Municipal Corporation performed a live demonstration of the Super Sucker Machine and extracted sewerage from the nallah near M.A Stadium.

The Super Sucker Machine has been provided to the JMC by the Jammu and Kashmir Bank under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

Among others, Commissioner JMC, Manmohan Singh, Joint Commissioner JMC R S Jamwal and officials of J&K Bank and JMC were present on the occasion.

State’s youth so sharp, just need a handholding: Mehbooba

Asking the business community of the country to rise above corporate interests to help youth of the State become more and more employable, Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti today asserted that Jammu and Kashmir’s youth are much sharper and intelligent who just need a hand holding to prove their worth.

Addressing the Industry Talent Enabler Confluence-2016 here this evening, the Chief Minister appealed the corporate sector of the country to come forward and share their national responsibility of helping the youth of the State to hone their skills. She said the youth of the State are talented enough that given an opportunity they would prove their worth anywhere and in any field. “They just need a hand holding to show their talent“, she said.

Making a passionate appeal to the industry fraternity to involve more and more youth in their ventures, Mehbooba Mufti said by investing in the youth they would actually be investing in peace in the State. She reminded the audience of the feat eight year old Tajamul Islam from Bandipora attained by becoming the world Kickboxing champion. Similarly, she said another eight year boy from the State is going to represent India in judo at the international level.

Terming skill development as the future of employment, the Chief Minister said Jammu and Kashmir needs skilled workforce in huge numbers in coming years particularly in paramedics and engineering. She said five medical colleges and two AIIMS would be set up in the State and these institutes would be requiring besides doctors paramedics in huge numbers. Similarly, with the starting of projects in road construction and power generation a good number of technicians and mechanics would be needed besides engineers, she said and asked the industry leaders to contribute their bit in skill development in the State.

Mehbooba Mufti said that Jammu and Kashmir has not attracted much of the attention of the corporate sector of the country adding that beginnings could be made even from small initiatives. She told the visiting industry representatives of many small initiatives taken by young boys and girls in the State which later became quite a success.

Terming youth as an asset for the State, the Chief Minister asked the delegates to deliberate how the positive energies in them could be channelized and how their aspirations could be met. This, she said, is a challenge and hoped that these initiatives would yield positive results.

Earlier, Minister for Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Abdul Haq in his address said the project has been started in a mission mode and there is no ceiling in terms of funds or number of youth to be trained. He said the programme is being monitored by the Chief Minister herself who takes regular appraisals of the same.

Representatives from top bushiness houses of the country are attending the confluence.  The confluence is a first step to start a proper linkage between the J&K Government and the corporate industry of the country for the successful execution of the Himayat programme.

The Action Plan for the Himayat programme for three years proposes training of 1.25 million youth from the State, including 1000 foreign placements, and the resource allocation has been to the tune of Rs. 1600 crore.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister  heard the views, suggestions and opinions of industry representatives about enhancing the employability of the youth of the State.

Earlier, Secretary, Rural Development, Kifayat Hussain Rizvi gave the introduction of Himayat programme. He said pursuant to the request of former Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed last year, the Central Government has agreed to the continuation of the scheme for next five years.

Director, J&K State Livelihood Mission, Dr. G N Qasba in his presentation gave an overview of the skill development in the country and the world. He said by 2020 there would a shortfall of 47 million skilled manpower in the world and there would be huge demand from areas like gulf countries, Middle  East and the Europe.

Director, Skill Development in the Union Ministry of Rural Development, Anil Subramanian; representatives from prominent corporate houses of the country including Larsen & Tubro, Blue Star, V Mart Retail, ESSAR, VLCC and others besides officers of the State Government attended the confluence.

Gun owners living around wetlands ordered to deposit arms

In order to safeguard the abodes of migratory birds and eradicate the menace of poaching Additional District
Magistrate Srinagar has directed all the persons holding Arms Licenses and living within the five kilometers of Shallibug, Hokersar wetlands and Dal Lake to deposit their guns in their concerned police stations till May 01, 2017 against a proper receipt thereon.

According to Additional District Magistrate Srinagar thousands of migratory birds seek refuge in the wetlands of Kashmir to avoid severe climate of their parent destinations. Wild Life Warden has reported that poachers remain hell bent to kill these creatures in the wetlands
and government has initiated many steps to safeguard their lives.

Restrictions imposed under around examinations centres in Srinagar

The Additional District Magistrate, Srinagar under section 144 CRPC has ordered imposition of restrictions under Section 144 Cr.pc around the examination centers on examination days with effect from November 15, 2016 till conclusion of examinations falling in the jurisdiction of District Srinagar.

Regular-2016 is scheduled to be held with effect from  November 15,
2016.As many as 55392 candidates are appearing in the examination through 545 examination centers across Kashmir Division for which date sheet and centre notices have already been finalized.
